Turkish military said fierce fighting between PKK guerrillas and Turkish army in Semdinli, a town of Hakkari province, killed 10 soldiers and wounded 14. Locals claim at least 20 soldiers killed in a single clash near Turkey-Iraq borders zero-point.
Today's clashes came as Turkish army concentrated mass of troops at Semdinli for a cross border operation against Kurdish guerrillas.
Kurdish guerrillas stormed an army outpost in Gediktepe, 10 kilometers south of Semdinli, this morning at 02:00.
Turkish army said 8 soldiers were killed and 14 wounded in the attack. Two more soldiers were killed in a road side bomb explosion near the border.
Locals said 8 Turkish helicopters are transporting killed and wounded soldiers from the combat zone. Some claims 20 soldiers were killed in Gediktepe.
PKK officials claimed responsibility for the attack.
Locals also reported that the clashes continue between guerrillas and army forces.
Turkish warplanes have started to attack PKK bases in South Kurdistan right after the attack on army outpost.
